Samtskhe-Javakheti

Samtskhe-Javakheti is a southern region of Georgia, bordered by Armenia and Turkey and mostly inhabited with Armenians.

Visiting the region, specifically the cave city of Vardzia, will immediately transport you to a different era. One feels like they are in a magical dream, full of ancient traditions and majestic architecture. Vardzia-Khertvisi has been submitted for future inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

At present, One of Georgia’s national landmarks and tourist attractions is Rabati Castle complex in Akhaltsikhe, Built in the 13th century.

Besides the ancient monuments and historical destinations, there are some popular holiday resorts there, including Bakuriani and Borjomi.

Bakuriani is the most famous ski resort in Georgia, 1,700 meters above sea level. Its recreation zones and beautiful snowy coniferous forests attracts visitors.  The highest mountain called Kokhta is at around 2,200 meters above sea level. There are several ski trails destined for advanced and for beginner skiers In Bakuriani. Except skiing, you can enjoy snowboarding, sledding, horse-riding and many others. Bakuriani offers various kind of hotels, cottages and guesthouses near the hills, valleys and the beautiful park.

You can travel from Bakuriani to Borjomi, the famous resort of Georgia, by an electrified narrow-gauge railway called “Kukushka”. An amazing road between these places charms fans of skiing and tourists. Tourists can visit Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park in Borjomi, the one of the largest national parks in Georgia, the Romanov summer palace and taste mineral water, the one of the most famous and wholesome drink in the world.
